Day of the Dead in my family is a family affair.  My mother is in her 90's. She has many grandchildren and great grandchildren.  The great grand children are taught from toddler age to lay flowers, then they grow into helping with many other tasks in ofrenda building.  All 8 of my siblings build altars or assist in building altars for Day of the Dead, and so do many of their children.  The altars are for home installation, and others are for public installation (community altars).  We also go to the cemetery and adorn our ancestors graves with offerings.  My sister Denise is the most dedicated at never forgetting to make an offering at the gravestones.
