San Joaquin Wildlife Sanctuary, Irvine, Ca
The Irvine Water District owns and manages the property of the San Joaquin Wildlife Sanctuary. The Audubon has a General Store on the premises that is a vintage cottage home. The Irvine Water District has a number of man made ponds. It is located across from U.C. Irvine. The San Diego Creek separates the Irvine Water District property from U.C. Irvine. The sanctuary has nature trails. One of the ponds was recently allowed to let dry out completely due to an algae problem. One day the pond was dry and the sun cause cracks on the ground. The next day, as in today, the Irvine Water District filled the pond. The waterfowl started to return. Here is a little Black-necked Stilt.
